A moment of madness..... my first mixed media canvas!

Hi! how are you doing! are you having a good crafty week?

This week I'm having  highs and lows.... last night I sat down at my desk, 5 hours passed.... and decided to go to bed as the card I had started to make wasn't coming together as I really wanted....But the previous night was totally different!  I've had in my mind for a while that I wanted to try to work with canvas and mixed media... so two weeks ago I bought a canvas. The other night I decided to create something (I had no plans for it, I just knew I wanted something different, that I've never made before). When I finished, after hours of glueing, painting, varnishing, sticking things, I had made a cute little canvas for Alaia!

I started glueing scrap pieces of paper to the canvas. Lots of PVA glue all over! once dry, I added some Americana Matte varnish to make it waterproof.
And then I went crazy with paint! I started with pink acrylic paint, which I brushed all over the place. Then, with a bit of water and a tissue, I removed most of the paint, but it left a really nice hint of pink all around the papers. then I started with blue and purples around the edges. And more varnish....

I printed this Saturated Canary image called "Honey" and coloured it with my Promarkers.

I used:
for the hair: cocoa, burnt sienna, raw sienna, sandstone and buttercup.
for the skin: vanilla and almond.
for T-shirt: Pink Carnation, Blossom, Pink Mittens and blender pen.
For skirt and boots: cornflower, powder blue and blender pen.
for tights: buttercup, mustard, blossom and pink mittens.
For bunny: raw sienna, sandstone and buttercup.

I made little dots with Versamark pen, and spinkled white embossing powder around the image.

The Sentiments are rub-ons I've had in my stash for a very long time.

On the bottom right corner I used some clay (I don't have any modelling paste or gesso, in my wish list at the moment!) and embossed some butterflies with an embossing folder. I painted on top with acrylic paint.

I also used some wooden hearts and butterflies I had in my stash. I painted them with acrylic paint as they had a red polka dot pattern.

More embellishments used:

3 kinds of washi tape from local shop.
1 lace sticker
buttons and rhinestones from local shop.
lace netting under the flowers from Hobbycraft.
Lace ribbon and flowers from Wild Orchid crafts.
The charms and beads I bought them online a long time ago (don't remember where from, sorry)

The "Dream" ticket and the pin holding it are from Tim Holtz.

More Pictures....

Alaia loved it, that's important! .... it's like a encouraging little 8 x 8 canvas for her to keep, when she grows she will understand the message I guess.....

I really hope you like my first try at Mixed Media!!!!!

I'm entering it into the following challenges:
Hanna and Friends #189 - Hearts

Thank you so much for taking a look. please leave a comment with some feedback. I read every and single message from all you. sorry I can't answer all of them (no enought time a day!!!) but if you have any questions, I'll answer them.
And don't forget to follow! :)

Until next time!

A Vintage Wedding

Hi! I'm here again!  thank you so much for stopping by!

this is becoming so addictive! If I don't get my paper and markers fix a few times a week (ok... I have to take a few nights off!!!) I go craaazzzy!!!!! although finding the time is so difficult! and now my little darling is at home, sick with temperature and a very runny nose....  (but she's still full of energy??!??), so even harder! I just wait for her to go to bed and my crafting begins!

This time I bring you a Wedding card... I think it's the first wedding card I've put up since I started the blog! I tried AGAIN! to go for a vintage-look card....this time monochrome and in nude colours. I'm not sure if I can consider this sepia colouring? please let me know in the comments below, as I'm not sure if I've chosen the right markers for sepia colouring....  I used the one's I have, I'm slowly trying to build up my Promarker collection.

I used this stamp by Lili of the Valley called "Wedding Couple". It is one of my "abandoned" rubber stamps.... I haven't used it for so long!

The papers I've used are non-branded. I also used my "Postcard" stamp by Papermania Urban Stamps, with brown ink.
I built up the layers over kraft card.
I used a punched hearts border and lace across the card.

The Promarkers I used are:
Raw Sienna, Sandstone, Putty Mastic, Almond, and Blender Pen.
For the blonde hair I used: buttermilk and eggnog.

The corner stamp next to the image is from Tim Holtz Stampendous collection.

I punched two butterflies (Martha Stewart punch) in Kraft card, and then I used the Postcard stamp with Versamark embossing ink, white embossing powder (Papermania foam white) and my heating tool to create the script embossing on the butterflies.

The Sentiment is my own, created with my laptop. I used one of my new Marianne Creatables tag dies for the label/tag shape.

All the papers, doily, image, hearts and sentiment are inked with Tim Holtz Distress ink in Tea dye and distressed with the Tim Holtz distresser tool.

The flowers, pearls and lace are from Wild Orchid Crafts.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges (in no particular order...)

Quirky Crafts #2 - 3 B's (I chose Butterflies)
Brown Sugar #78 - Embossing (butterflies are wet embossed) 2nd entry)

I really hope you have enjoyed this card! don't forget to leave me some love and follow if you haven't done already.

Thank you so much for stopping by!!! I'm now back to give my little girl some more cuddles!
Until next time!

Have a cracking birthday!

Hello!  well, well... beginning of a new week! I hope you've had a great weekend and that you are full of energy for the week ahead... At the Diaz-Kaleem household, the flu has made an appearance.... Alaia is poorly and I'm constantly sneezing. Hubby is away for the day, but he wasn't feeling really well yesterday either.... not good! So Alaia and I have decided that today is a pj's day for us!

Luckily, we had a really good weekend. On Saturday we went out for a bit. I convinced (begged) my husband to take me to this great garden centre which has a massive craft section. I don't drive (although I have a driving licence, long story... ), and it's not accesible by bus, so I count on my hubby to drive me there at least once a month... I love it! I found stuff that I can't find in my local shop, and cheaper... really happy. there is nothing like a bit of craft shopping to make me happy!

Today I've got a male card for you... and I used some of my new things! I used a stamp that I got as a prize for a challenge from QKR Stampede, called "Carpenter".  It's a really fun stamp and I couldn't wait to use it!

I made a card base from Kraft card.
Yellow card stock for background.
The papers I've used are from: First Edition Desert Blooms (stripes paper) and Crate Paper The Pier (wood looking paper).
I hand-stitched with white thread around the paper.

I used this sketch from Digi Sketch challenge.

I thougth it was perfect for the image and theme.

The Promarkers I used to colour the image are:

for the hat: Poppy and Cool Grey 3
for the hair: Cool Grey 5, 4, 3 and 1
for the skin: Vanilla, Almond and blender pen
T-shirt: Poppy, Mustard, Buttermilk and blender pen.
For the jeans: China Blue, Cornflower and Powder blue.
For the wood: Raw Sienna, Sandstone.
Hammer: Cool Grey 4 and 2; Raw Sienna and Sandstone.
For the shoes: Cool Grey 5,4,3,1

I created the sentiment on my computer and cut it with my new Marianne's Creatable round tag die.

The tools and nail head brads are some the goodies I bought on Saturday. They are from Woodware.
The plain silver brads are non-branded.
I added some washi tape (I'm loving Washi tape lately!!!!) from local shop.

I also used some recycled embellishments!
The corrugated brown card strips are part of the packaging of a toiletry set I got on my baby shower (yes, 5 years ago!). I still have some left, I don't use it a lot, I want it to last as I love it!
And then... I raided our tool box! I sew a little screw on the top corner of the image and used a Screw ring (not sure about the name, they are used together with screws) to link the sentiment tag to the image.

I'm really happy how it turned out...  at the end...
When I first made the card, I used the blender pen to "correct" a bit of red marker that went over the line... omg! red everywhere! then I tried to cover it with white gel pen... I completed the card, took pictures.... and I hated it! so took everything apart and coloured a new image! It would have bugged me so much!

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:

Oldie but a goody - Recycle (old: plain brads, corrugated paper -recycled-, First Edition stripe paper )

I really hope you like my new card! please leave me some love in the comments and don't forget to follow if you haven't done it yet! :) thanks!

Until next time

Sentimental Sundays DT Post: Lovey Dovey!!!

Hellooooo!!!!! I hope you are having a good Sunday!

It seems that we are going to get a bit of snow here in the Highlands! at least that is what the weather man keeps on saying.... happy as Alaia keeps on talking about building snowmen and I really want her to use her brand new snow boots!!! but not so happy as my husband has a meeting tomorrow and has to drive 175 miles this evening and back home tomorrow evening.... I get really worried, the road is very narrow and I want him safe at home when the weather is like this...

So, as every Sunday, it time for a new challenge at Sentimental Sundays!!!

The theme for challenge #191 this week is:

Lovey Dovey
(plus a sentiment)

This means, you can make a card for any loved one... nearing Valentine's day, so easy peasy!
but don't worry if you are not in the mood for Valentine's cards yet, it could be a card for anybody you love (child, baby... etc)

So, hope over to Sentimental Sundays, and join us in the fun! My fellow DT have also made some fabulous creations to inspire you!!!

Our sponsor this week is Sami Stamps

For my card I used this beautiful and romantic Sami Stamps image called "Winter Romance".

The card is a bit simpler than what I'm used to... I just thought that it could be directed to a male or a female... .

I just used some red and white cardstock as a background. I die-cut an oval, fussy cut the image and placed it over a snowflakes paper (this came free with a magazine).
I hand-stitched with grey thread around the card.

The Promakers I used to colour the image are:

For him: Raw Sienna, Sandstone, Cool Grey 5,4,3 and 1; China blue, cornflower, powder blue, Poppy and blender pen.

For her: Sandstone, buttermilk, Poppy, Cool Grey 5,4,3 and 1, blender pen.

The "Love is" stamp is a bargain I found a while ago, it's a rubber stamp from Anita's. It's a bit grunge looking, but hopefully works fine on this card!

Then I die-cut the two hearts with a Sissix Bigz die, embossed them with a floral pattern and a swiss dots pattern, and added two small rose buds.

I inked all round the heart shapes and card stock with Tim Holtz distress ink in Tattered Rose.

I'm also entering this card into the following challenges:

I hope you like my card today! A bit different for me...
Don't forget to comment and follow! :)
Thank you so much for coming to visit my little corner on the internet!

Until next time!

Summer and Ice-cream!

Hello! It's Friday, where has the week gone? I can't believe is already 1 month since Christmas Eve! no way! time is going so fast lately... I blink and a day, a week, a whole month is past! my "baby" is not a baby any more... she comes from nursery every day with different stories to tell, she talks so nicely and so grown up! I guess this is life, they have to grow! tears coming down my face.... happy tears!

Anyway.... let's talk about today's card!

I've made a fun, summer, a CASE'd card and a bit retro (oh, I'm loving retro at the moment, I think it's going to become a staple in my card-making).

My inspiration for this card is a card by Athina Emory, DT for Loves Rubberstamps.
This is her card, click HERE  to see the card in Loves Rubberstamps challenge blog.

I hope you find the similarity! I've added and omitted a few embellishments, I've kept the layout (different size though) and the image is also from the Paper Shelter
the image I've used is so cute! It's called "Not Enough" . So much fun!
It makes me happy, Summer is my favourite season. Weather is warm(er), and it's in Summer when I go back to Spain on holiday to see my family and friends! and eat the biggest Ice creams! (there is this place in my city in Spain that gives you  the equivalent of 3 scoops as a normal scoop. Grrrreat!) so this card represents part of my Summer!

The papers I've used are from: Crate Paper "The Pier", Webster's pages Petite Papers "Western Romand & All about  me" (this one was a free gift with a magazine) and some scraps.

I slightly distressed the papers, to give it more of the retro look. I also used Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad in Old Paper.
I hand-stitched in white around the background papers and the image.

The Promarkers I used to colour the image are:

For the hair: Cocoa, Raw Sienna, Sandstone, Buttermilk and Satin
For the skin: Coral, Vanilla and almond. For the lips: Antique Pink and Blossom,
For the clothes and shoes: Antique pink, Blossom, Pink Mittens and Tulip Yellow.
For the scoop spoon: cornflower and powder blue.
For the Ice-Cream: Leaf Green, Lime Zest, Tulip Yellow, Peach, Antique pink, blossom, Cocoa, Raw Sienna, Buttermilk.

The pearls, flower and leaves are from Wild Orchid Crafts.
The 2 types of lace are from local shops.
The ticket is Tim Holtz Adage Tickets.
The swirl is a die-cut from Marianne Creatables.
Button from my stash.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:

Crafty Creations #255 - Seasonal (I've chosen Summer, as it's my favourite season)
Inky Chicks #21 - Bingo : lace, swirls and pearls
Mema's Crafts -  Janurary challenge Bingo (lace or ribbon, stitching, free, digi or rubber stamp)

I really hope you like this card! if you do, please leave a comment. I read them all. I haven't got time to reply to all of them, but I will answer any questions. And don't forget to FOLLOW :)

Thank you so much for paying me a visit at my little corner on the internet!
Until next time!!!

A Marriage Proposal card!

Hi! It's Wednesday, which means there are only 2 days left for the weekend!
The days are going so fast, I feel like I haven't got enough time to do everything I need to do!
24-hour days are not enough! maybe it's my time management... I get distracted a lot! I should add another resolution to my list: getting more organised!

Today I've got a very special card for you.... I was asked to make this by the brother of a friend of mine, who wants to propose to his girlfriend! So this card is all about LOVE and GIRLINESS!!!

I found this quote, and straight away I knew I had to use it! It's amazing! it's called Valentine Subway art and you can find it at The Girl Creative blog.

I put the quote over a reddish pink ornate frame die cut.
The pale pink background paper is from local shop (non-branded), then I used a fabric feel paper from First Edition "Rose Garden" collection, which I cut with a Go Create large frame die.
I hand-stitched around the bottom layer with white thread.

Across the card, I used a floral Martha Stewart border punch, together with a very beautiful ribbon I've had in my stash for a very long time. It's got little flowers and pearls attached to it.

I used the Joy Crafts Butterfly border die for the Butterflies and added some glitter glue (girly cards always need glitter!

The tag is also from Joy Crafts.
The flourish corner is a die from Marianne Creatables.
The doily is from local shop.

The flowers are from Hobbycraft and Wild Orchid Crafts, which I also covered in glitter glue.
The metallic "twigs" with beads are also from Hobbycraft (sorry, not sure about how to call them!)
Pearls are also from WOC.

on the Inside of the card, I made a Pop-up heart, with the girl's name on it.
I used again the flourish corner die, and some punched butterflies, all covered in glitter glue.

I added some washi tape to the heart (stars washi tape). The sentiment is also a washi tape. both from local shop.

the big rose is from a K&Company paper. More glitter glue on it, plus some liquid pearls.

The ribbon seems a bit random, but it's purpose is to tie a engagement ring with it!

I've covered the girl's name inside the heart for privacy reasons

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:

Fab n Funky #200 - All about the words (used a sentiment as a main image)
Inky Chicks #21 - Bingo (pearls, ribbon and butterflies)
Try it on Tuesdays - Celebrations (Love, Marriage Proposal)
Twisted Tuesdays - use washi or fabric tape; twist: used sth. starting with  T A P E. (used two types of washi tape on the inside of the card and used Pearls)

I hope you like this card. Don't forget to leave me some love in the comments and to follow!

Until next time!

distressing to de-stress myself!

Hi! Happy Tuesday!

First of all, I would like to welcome all my new followers! Thank you! I really hope you enjoy my blog and my creations! Welcome to the crazy wagon!!!!

Well... and I thought that after last weekend I was going to take a few days off! no... not possible! Here I was, last night, after the little one went to bed and the hubby away on business, thinking to myself : "today just relax, watch some TV, catch up on Celebrity Big Brother (I'm hooked!!)... I couldn't! So, I put Big Brother on, sat down on my desk and made this card!

I started the card following a sketch provided by a challenge.... but  when I started putting things together I wasn't really convinced that I wanted to use that sketch... so I decided to go "free style"!

The image I've used is a new digi from Wee Stamps called "Silver Fairy".

I went for one of my favourite colour combinations, blue with a bit of brown and cream.
The papers I've used are mainly freebies from card-making magazines and from my K&Company paper pad.
I distressed all the edges with the Tim Holtz paper distresser and added blue ink and Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Tea Dye.

I also hand-stitched around the papers with brown thread.

The Promarkers I used to colour the fairy are:

For the hair: Cocoa, Raw Sienna, Sandstone, Buttermilk and Satin.
For her skin: Vanilla, Almond and Blossom.
For hand and leg warmers/cuffs: cornflower, powder blue and lavender.
For wings: Cornflower, Powder Blue and Blender pen.

The dress is paper-pieced with a scrap of paper.

I painted the filigree metal corner and heart buckle with blue acrylic paint and once dry, I used sand-paper to remove some of the paint. I wanted some of the metallic colour to show to give it more of a Shabby Chic look.

Dies used: Tim Holtz Weathered clock
The ticket stamp in the main image is also from Tim Holtz.

The flowers, pearls and filigree metal corners are from Wild Orchid Crafts.
I used some string to make a bow; and buttons and Liquid Pearls in Pearly white and Blue to decorate. From local shops.
.
I created the Happy Birthday sentiment on my computer.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:

Totally Gorjuss #219 - Lace or Pearls (I used pearls) 3rd entry)
Sweet Stampin - Your favourite style (my favourite style is distressed/shabby chic)

Thank you so much for taking a look! I would love if you leave me a comment, I haven't got time to reply to all of them, BUT I read them all! I will also answer any questions...
and don't forget to follow! :)

Until next time!

Sentimental Sundays DT Post: layers, layers and more layers!

Hi! I'm back!

We've just arrived from running some errands around town and I bought some crafty stuff, but just essentials, like glue, so nothing really exciting!

And I just rushed quickly back home because.....

 it's Sentimental Sundays time!

This week at Sentimental Sundays challenge #190, the theme is

More than 3 layers
(plus a sentiment)

Our fabulous sponsor this week is Paper Pretties.

They have the cutest stamps and digi stamps for all type of occasions!

So come on, start layering up your cards, check out the amazing creations my fellow DTs have made  and join us this week for this great challenge!

So, this is my 4th card of my blogathon weekend!

For my card this week I used this amazing image by Paper Pretties, our sponsor, called "Fan-tastic".
And then I put layer and layers and layers! aren't layers a lot of fun???!!!

For all the layers, I used some scraps and papers from First Edition Rose Garden paper pad, K&Company and Crate Paper DIY shop paper pads.
I distressed all the paper borders with Tim Holtz distress ink pad in Tattered Rose.

I coloured the image with my Promarkers.

For her hair I used: Black, Cool Grey 5, 4, 3 and 1.
For her skin: Vanilla, Almond, Blossom and blender pen.
For her dress and sandals: Antique pink, Pink Carnation, Blossom and Pink Mittens.

For the fan I used: Blossom and buttermilk.

I fussy cut the image and place it as the top layer, over the circle layer. This circle layer represents the Rising Sun,  as Japan can be know as (having a Japanese geisha as an image, I wanted to have something else hinting to Japan!)

The banner is one of the new stash I got over Christmas. It is from La La Land Crafts and I bought it from Loves Rubberstamps.

I didn't feel the card needed a lot of embellishments, as it has so many layers and papers a very patterned. I just used a few buttons from my stash.

I created the sentiment myself on the computer.

I'm also entering this card into the following challenges:

Moving along with the times - Girly feminine cards (3rd entry)
Stamping for the weekend - Happy Birthday
Aud Sentiments #98 - Use any sentiment

So, third card of my blogathon weekend!
For my first project for Scribble and Scrap, I decided to make a card with a twist! A BOOK CARD!
after watching lots of you tube tutorials, a got a bit from here and there and decided to have a go.

Scribble and Scrap has amazing images: vintage images, vintage and steam-punk digis, toppers and die-cutting files... They also have some new digis of lovely characters called "The Puglies". Go and check them out!

For this project I used one of Scribble and Scrap vintage sheets: Vintage Photo sheet 29.

The book card is completely made from scratch, I started with a few pieces of card stock and ended up with this! :)

I used papers from my K&Company paper pad.  I distressed them with Tim Holtz distress ink pad in Tea Dye.
I made the white clay corners myself with a mould.
I punched the butterflies with Martha Stewart butterfly punch.
The flowers and pearls are from Wild Orchid Crafts and Hobbycraft.
The string, button, doily, beads, lace and washi tape are from local shops.

The inside....

on one side, I added a little pocket with two tags, for the greetings.  The tags are from Joy Crafts.
Used the papers from K&Company, washi tape from local shop and a punched butterfly.

I left the book part empty.
I though I could add some chocolates or a little present inside! It could also be decorated, with flowers, butterflies, ribbon...

the border is punched from a Martha Stewart border punch.

I'm entering my book card into the following challenges:

Crafty Hands - Put a tag on it (tags inside the book card)
Try it on Tuesday - In with the New (new technique) 4th entry

If you like my first Book Card, I would love it if you leave a comment!
